Service on the F train was restored in Brooklyn overnight Thursday following a train derailment in Coney Island Wednesday, MTA officials said.

While F trains have resumed service between Avenue X and Coney Island, northbound F trains will run at slower speeds near West Eighth Street-New York Aquarium as repairs continue, according to the MTA.
The train derailed between the West Eighth Street-New York Aquarium and Neptune Avenue stations at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday. New York City Transit President Richard Davey, said the Manhattan-bound train derailed, with one of its wheels coming off the track as it approached Neptune Avenue.

Thirty-four passengers and three crew members were on the train when it derailed, but no one was injured, he said.

Davey said the MTA’s investigation into the incident remains ongoing, but early reports suggested an issue with the track.

The derailment came less than a week after two 1 trains derailed on the Upper West Side, leaving about 25 people with minor injuries. The National Transportation Safety Board is still investigating that incident, Davey said.

“I realize that we had issues obviously last week as well, and we’ll get to the bottom of whatever this is, but at this point, from the collision we had last week and derailment today, don’t seem like they’re connected at all,” he said Wednesday. “But certainly, we’ll get to the bottom of this particular issue.”

Following the derailment Wednesday afternoon, F train service was “severely disrupted, especially in Brooklyn,” the MTA said. There was no service between Kings Highway and Coney Island and “extremely limited” service between Church Avenue and Kings Highway.
